Frequently Asked Questions
What are the official FIBA basketball court dimensions?
A full-size FIBA basketball court measures 28 m long by 15 m wide, measured from the inner edge of the boundary lines. For official play, FIBA also requires additional space around the court, so the total recommended area is larger than the marked playing court itself.
How far is the FIBA three-point line?
The FIBA three-point line is 6.75 m from the point on the floor directly beneath the exact center of the basket to the outer edge of the arc. This is the official distance used for modern FIBA basketball courts.
How far is the FIBA free-throw line?
On a FIBA court, the free-throw line is positioned so that its furthest edge is 5.80 m from the inner edge of the endline. The free-throw line itself is 3.60 m long.
What is hoop overhang, and why does it matter on a FIBA court?
Hoop overhang is the distance from the endline to the front face of the backboard. It matters because the exact basket and backboard position affects how the key area and other basketball markings should be placed. Swish can adjust the court layout to match your specific hoop model and keep the line markings precise.
Can I build a FIBA-style basketball court in custom dimensions?
Yes. Swish can build a basketball court in any dimensions, including reduced-size FIBA-style layouts for homes, schools, clubs, and training spaces. We can scale the design to your available area while keeping the court as accurate and playable as possible. Our minimum court size is 15 m2 or 150 ft2.
Can Swish match the layout to my exact hoop model?
Yes. Swish can adjust the basketball layout to your exact hoop model and overhang so the court markings are positioned correctly. This is especially important when you want the key area, free-throw line, and three-point line to fit your real basket placement as accurately as possible.
Which Swish tile series is best for a FIBA basketball court?
All three series are excellent for basketball. We usually recommend Swish Large Elite Tiles because their large-sized design simplifies assembly, while the elegant surface texture and large pads provide excellent shock absorption. Elastic Tiles are popular for their competitive pricing and outstanding elasticity, while Elite Tiles are ideal for commercial or public courts thanks to their industry-leading warranty and patented safety-lock mechanism.
Can I choose custom colors, logos, and multiple sports lines on a FIBA court?
Yes. At no extra cost, customers can choose custom tile colors, add 1 logo, and include line markings for multiple sports on the same court. This makes it easy to create a unique basketball court that also works for other activities.
How do Swish basketball court tiles install, and what base is needed underneath?
Swish tiles are designed for DIY installation and connect like a large puzzle. The ideal base is a solid surface such as concrete, but many customers also install on pavers or well-prepared compacted crushed stone. The main requirement is that the surface is stable, relatively even, and does not collect large puddles. Grass is not suitable. Swish tiles also include underside pads that help improve elasticity, shock absorption, sound reduction, durability, lateral stability, and minor surface leveling.
